On the 4th of June, our Scientific Director, Célia Sapart, was invited to deliver a keynote lecture at the 43rd University Meeting of Civil Engineering (RUGC) in Marseille, France, organised by AUGC, the National French Association for Civil Engineering.
Her presentation, “The potential of CO₂ utilisation to ‘defossilise’ our economy”, highlighted the role of Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) in the construction sector. In this field, key CCU contributions include:
🔵 Supporting the recycling of carbon-intensive construction materials and decreasing their environmental footprint.
🔵 Substituting fossil gas with CO₂-based renewable gas in processes where direct use of renewable energy is not feasible.
🔵 Storing CO₂ permanently in materials through the process of mineralisation.
As in previous years, RUGC showcased the state of progress in civil engineering and provided an opportunity for professional and institutional partners to connect with the academic community through engaging discussions, exhibitions of equipment, software, and specialised publications, as well as by awarding a special trophy to a selected speaker.
