Making Europe ready for CCU deployment

CO2 Value Europe represents the entire value chain of CCU technologies. One of our objectives is to support EU policies that foster the uptake of CCU, ensuring it is acknowledged by decision-makers and stakeholders at large. As CCU technologies demonstrate their impact to mitigate climate change and help companies move away from fossil resources and reduce their carbon footprint, they are now at the heart of European discussions.

Our goal as CO2 Value Europe is simple: we advocate for a comprehensive and consistent EU regulatory framework allowing CCU to grow and be deployed across the continent.

Game-changing EU legislations on CCU

The European Union has a clear priority for the years ahead: delivering the EU Green Deal to address climate change and environment deterioration.
To do so, EU authorities have tabled a number of crucial legislative initiatives to put Europe on track for carbon neutrality, and a number of them, like the Fit-for-55 package or the EU Communications on Sustainable Carbon Cycles, are shaping the environment in which CCU can be deployed.

Advocating for European policies enabling CCU

Present and future EU initiatives need to provide CCU technologies with long-term perspectives, legal certainty, and appropriate incentives to ensure that, together with slashing their CO2 emissions whenever possible, entire sectors and industries are making the transition to non-fossil-based carbon feedstocks.
At CO2 Value Europe, we work together with our members via dedicated Working Groups to build a EU policy framework that enables CCU to flourish.
We advocate towards policy-makers – in the EU Parliament, the Commission, the Council of the EU as well as in other regional, national, and international organisations to:

  • Build on current political acknowledgement of the role of CCU to mitigate climate change
  • Strengthen policies, enablers and financial incentives promoting CCU
  • Match supportive elements at EU level with parallel incentives at national scale
  • Promote policy orientations, economic incentives, and technical regulations that favour the uptake of CCU.
