Throughout May, our policy team has been actively engaging with stakeholders across Europe to bring forward the interests of our members and ensure Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) remains firmly on the EU policy agenda. From Parliament roundtables to expert panels and project milestones, here are some key moments from the past month:
🔹 CEA 80-Year Anniversary Celebration (21/05/25)
CO2 Value Europe was invited to join the French Permanent Representation to celebrate 80 years of our member CEA, a key contributor to innovation and science and a Clarivate‘s Global Top 100 Innovator for the 4th year.
🔹 UniLiON Open Talk – Danish R&D Priorities (20/05/25)
We participated in this timely discussion on the Danish Presidency’s upcoming R&D programme, including upcoming regulations central to CCU like the Decarbonisation Accelerator Act, the Circular Economy Act, and the next MFF.
🔹 Meeting with MEP Groothuis Office (19/05/25)
Our policy team met with the staff of MEP Bart Groothuis to discuss State Aid rules, delegated act on low-carbon fuels, and the policy environment needed for CCU to thrive.
🔹 The Parliament Magazine Sustainability Summit (15/05/25)
We attended this flagship event to engage with policymakers, including Commission officials & MEPs, and industry players on the role of CCU in delivering the EU’s broader sustainability objectives.
🔹 SUNER-C Roundtable in the European Parliament (14/05/25)
At a policy dinner co-hosted by MEP Köhler, we joined stakeholders from the European Commission’s DG MOVE and DG RTD, and academia to discuss SUNER-C’s policy needs, green molecules deployment in Europe, and how to accelerate CCU scale-up.
🔹 EURECA-PRO Panel – University of Lorraine (14/05/25)
CO2 Value Europe was invited to speak on a panel about H₂ and CO₂ synergies, stressing the importance of bridging academic research and EU policymaking. Outreach and more accessible communication around science remain essential to shape future legislation.
🔹 CCSA Panel on Carbon Utilisation (14/05/25)
A dynamic panel discussion with CEWEP and CEPI on current incentives for CCU and challenges. It was a fruitful dialogue and a meaningful opportunity to exchange with the carbon capture community at large.
🔹 European Biogas Association Panel (06/05/25)
We joined Anna Onida (EBA) and Enosis to explore synergies between biogas and CCU, particularly the production of CCU products (fuels, chemicals, mineralisation) from captured biogenic CO₂. An effective exchange on sector integration and future partnerships.
We’re grateful to all partners, projects, and policymakers who continue to collaborate with us to make CCU a reality in Europe’s climate policy.
