CO₂ Value Europe has published a new set of recommendations aimed at shaping the revision of the EU Public Procurement Directives, calling for stronger alignment between public spending and climate objectives. The organisation emphasises that procurement policies can play a decisive role in accelerating the transition away from fossil-based resources.

  • Support for mineralisation products: Public construction procurement should actively promote materials produced through CO₂ mineralisation, helping to scale up low-carbon alternatives in the building sector.
  • Prioritisation of CCU fuels: Public fleets and transport systems—particularly in sectors that are difficult to electrify—should favour fuels derived from captured carbon.
  • Preference for CCU chemicals: Procurement rules should encourage the use of CCU-based chemicals alongside other sustainable alternatives such as recycled materials and sustainably sourced biomass.

CO₂ Value Europe makes the case that these targeted actions will not only reduce emissions but also stimulate innovation and market demand for sustainable industrial solutions across Europe.
