Producing carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) fuels, like RFNBOs and RCFs means strictly following EU regulations – in particular from the Renewable Energy Directive (REDIII) and the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). To demonstrate compliance, you must certify your products through an accredited certification body responsible for evaluating your project and processes and ensuring you meet all necessary requirements.

This month, three certification bodies among five applicants have received a positive technical assessment from the European Commission and are on their way to becoming official certifiers: ISCC – International Sustainability and Carbon Certification, CertifHy, and REDcert. This crucial step means the CCU community is closer than ever to having a fully recognised certification process for CCU fuels!

WHY THIS MATTERS? Certification is crucial for proving the environmental benefits of CCU fuels. Without it, we can’t demonstrate the true environmental value of these fuels. Having certifiers actively engaged in the CCU value chain will be key to showcasing the sustainability of these products.
