The National Institute of Chemistry (NIC) is Slovenia’s leading public research and development institute in the fields of chemistry and related sciences. NIC conducts both fundamental and applied research, with a strong focus on knowledge transfer to industry, facilitating the commercialisation of innovative solutions, and advancing expertise in sustainability, the circular economy, and low-carbon technologies.

Our new member has been actively involved in numerous EU-funded projects, including the e-CODUCT project, which aims to develop a pilot electrothermal catalytic reactor powered by renewable energy, to convert CO₂ (and H₂S) into valuable products (e.g. CO, fuels) under mixed gas streams. With advanced facilities, such as its Laboratory for Demonstration of H₂ and CO₂ Technologies, operating under the Center for Development, Demonstration and Training for Carbon-Free Technologies (DUBT) in Kisovec, NIC also provides capabilities in process development, catalyst and material testing, and scale-up support within the Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) sector.

Joining CO₂ Value Europe aligns with NIC’s mission to support the low-carbon transition and to convert CO₂ from a waste emission into a valuable resource within a circular economy.
