Welcome to Our New Member University of Lorraine!

The Universite de Lorraine, based in France, develops knowledge across the scientific spectrum by fostering dialogue between subjects and areas of knowledge.

Our new member is conducting research in chemical and process engineering, with a focus on areas such as CO₂ purification and conversion, reactor and separation process design, and the optimisation and simulation of these processes. They are exploring CO₂ capture through membrane-based technologies, process intensification, and the optimisation of capture systems, as well as CO₂ utilisation and conversion. The University’s work also includes biomass gasification for syngas production and the conversion of CO₂ into chemicals and fuels.

The University of Lorraine is also engaged in projects related to Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU), including the M²ARE Project which aims to decrease the use of fossil fuels in the maritime sector using renewable sources to produce “maritime methanol” – a low-cost, renewable fuel produced from biogenic CO₂ and renewable H₂ offering a sustainable alternative to advance the defossilise of the maritime sector.

They are further involved in the IMOSYCCA project. The project’s goal is to conceptualise small, easy-to-use CO₂ capture units that can be used by end consumers unfamiliar with the use of chemicals. The aim is to obtain an environmentally friendly intensified process that takes into account the energy penalty and environmental impact.
