Our member Infinium has recently signed a significant Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) agreement with International Airlines Group (IAG), paving the way for a more sustainable aviation future.

Starting in late 2026, Infinium will supply synthetic SAF (e-SAF) to the UK market, offering a notable reduction of approximately 90% in lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional fossil-based jet fuel.

Under the ten-year agreement, Infinium’s e-SAF will support any of IAG’s five airlines—Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, LEVEL, and Vueling Airlines—helping them transition towards sustainable operations.

Infinium’s Project Roadrunner facility in West Texas, poised to become among the world’s largest e-SAF producers, will spearhead this effort. This ambitious project is backed by Brookfield and Breakthrough Energy Catalyst, cementing Infinium’s role as a trailblazer in the production of eFuels.

This partnership highlights the potential of Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) to reshape industries, turning waste CO₂, water, and renewable energy into sustainable solutions, such as fuels. The production of such CCU fuels is based on Power-to-X processes, i.e. the use of captured carbon dioxide and renewable electricity(power) to generate renewable hydrogen from water and convert these molecules into products (X), such as hydrocarbons. These renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBOs) do not compete with the food chain and are produced from readily available compounds, water and CO₂. Nevertheless, the large-scale deployment of RFNBOs is still hindered by their relatively large cost and energy needs.
