Our member Liquid Wind is accelerating the green transition with significant progress on two large-scale eMethanol projects in northern Sweden, advancing both industrial defossilisation and energy resilience.

🔹 €3.6 Million Funding for Örnsköldsvik eFuel Project

The Swedish Energy Agency has awarded €3.6 million (SEK 39 million) through its Industriklivet program to support pre-engineering of Liquid Wind’s next eMethanol facility in Örnsköldsvik.

Integrated with Övik Energi’s biofuel-powered combined heat and power (CHP) plant, the site will use renewable electricity and captured biogenic CO₂ to produce around 100,000 tons of eMethanol annually, thereby avoiding approximately 200,000 tons of CO₂ emissions.

🔹 Commercialisation of FlagshipTHREE in Umeå

In parallel, Liquid Wind and Umeå Energi have finalised all agreements to commercialise the FlagshipTHREE project, marking the transition into execution.

Co-located with Umeå Energi’s Dåvaverket cogeneration plant in the Umeå Eco Industrial Park, the facility is designed to produce up to 100,000 tons of eMethanol per year while capturing 150,000 tons of biogenic CO₂. Construction is planned for 2026, with operations starting in 2028.

Together, these projects will help replace fossil fuels in hard-to-abate sectors such as shipping, aviation, and chemicals — while strengthening local industry, enabling circular resource use, and supporting Sweden’s and Europe’s broader climate neutrality goals.
