CO2 Value Europe has recently welcomed Wien Energie as a member of its dynamic and rapidly growing community active in developing Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) technology across Europe.

As Austria’s largest regional energy provider and a subsidiary of Wiener Stadtwerke, the municipal utility company, Wien Energie plays a pivotal role in supplying environmentally friendly power, cooling, heating, electromobility, and telecommunications to more than two million people. The organisation places primary importance on ensuring the security of supply and prioritises environmental protection. To produce power and heat, Wien Energie utilises renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, hydro, biomass, waste incineration, and cogeneration technology.

With the commitment to substantial investments in climate protection, supply security, and renewable energy expansion in the forthcoming years, Wien Energie stands suitably equipped for the future. The organisation is actively pursuing decarbonisation measures for its Waste to Energy plants through carbon capture technologies. Ongoing studies conducted by Wien Energie focus on various aspects of carbon capture, including utilisation potentials as well as the transportation of CO₂ within their waste technologies.
