Welcome to Our New Member, Westenergy!

Westenergy, owned by seven municipal waste management companies located in Western Finland, is a modern circular economy non-profit company that refines combustible waste into heat, electricity, and recovered materials. The energy produced in the Waste-to-Energy plant significantly reduces the need for fossil fuels in energy production, and Westenergy produces about 50% of the district heating needed in the Vaasa region. By producing material for earthwork and recycled metals, and by participating actively in developing the circular economy in the operational area, Westenergy is creating a cleaner and more sustainable future.

Our new member, in co-operation with its partners, CPC Finland and Prime Capital AG, is developing a top-tier carbon capture plant, set to be completed in 2028. The facility will capture about 95% of CO₂ emissions from Westenergy’s waste-to-energy plant and supply it to Koppö Energia—a joint venture by CPC and Prime Capital—for producing carbon-neutral synthetic fuels for heavy-duty transport, among other applications. The project aims to significantly reduce emissions and promote the industrial-scale CO₂ reuse, recycling carbon from waste. This initiative marks a major step toward a sustainable circular economy in Finland and supports the growth of clean industries in the country.
