On 13 January 2026, in Geleen (NL), the European Commission delivered on a key commitment under the Chemicals Industry Package by officially launching the Critical Chemicals Alliance (CCA).

The CCA is built around three clear objectives:

🔹 Preserve and modernise chemical production in Europe
🔹 Address key trade challenges impacting the sector
🔹 Stimulate lead markets for the chemicals of tomorrow

Low-carbon and sustainable carbon products — including those derived from captured CO₂ and CO — are part of the discussions within the CCA, with Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) expertise directly represented at the table.

Our Senior Policy Manager, Franklin Streichenberger, represents CO2 Value Europe in this initiative, ensuring that the knowledge and experience of the CCU community contribute concretely to shaping Europe’s approach to sustainable chemicals production.
