CO₂ Value Europe has recently welcomed SUEZ as a member of its dynamic and rapidly growing community active in developing Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) technology across Europe.
SUEZ provides essential services with innovative and resilient solutions for water and waste services. With 40,000 employees across 40 countries, the SUEZ Group works with its clients to create value over the entire lifecycle of their assets and services and to drive their low-carbon transition.
In 2022, SUEZ provided drinking water to 68 million people worldwide and sanitation services to more than 37 million people. The Group produced 7.9 TWh of energy from waste and wastewater and avoided 4 million tons of CO₂ emissions. By 2030: 70 % of their worldwide electricity usage will be sustainable, with it increasing to 100 % in Europe; SUEZ aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 39% from their water activities and by 26% from their waste activities; and they strive to invest tens of millions of euros dedicated to carbon capture research and development. Furthermore, by 2023, they will be electrically self-sufficient – producing more electricity than they consume.
SUEZ currently has more than 10 ongoing projects on CO₂ capture including a project in Pau-Lescar (France), a pioneering wastewater treatment plant that recovers CO₂ from sludge methanation, as well as a team of 15 working on innovation and technical projects specialising in CO₂.
