During the last 3 months, our Secretary General and our policy team have been engaging to advocate for CCU to be included in key incoming EU legislations. Here’s the summary of those last 90 days and some sneak peeks on what is ahead:

Convincing Policymakers

The last months were busy with many different foras where we made the case for CCU to be better included and incentivised as a clean technology in Europe. It included:

  • Roundtables & dialogues: high level roundtable on ETS, dialogue rounds with paper industry – both included participation from top Cabinet & Commission services officials from CLIMA, ENV, GROW, MOVE
  • CCU workshop: invited by Dutch government to feed national CCU plan based
  • Bilateral meetings: with French Permanent Representation, with MEPs and staff

Engaging with Industry & Academia

We spoke at multiple events in Finland, Austria, Netherlands, on synergies between bio-based economies and CCU, on the bridge between research and CCU projects, on the role of CCU to deliver renewable fuels to shipping, or on the overall EU policy framework impacting start up projects looking at carbon circularity.

Articulating Positions Across EU Files

We responded to crucial EU consultations and came forward with positions on key files in the making, including the Industrial Accelerator Act, the Biotech Act 2, the Taxonomy Revision, the post-2030 renewable energy framework, or the shaping of International Carbon Credits.

As the Summer arrives, we will continue to be busy with the publication of the ETS proposal on 15 July, the incoming release of conclusions from the Critical Chemicals Alliance, and many more other EU files like the Industrial Accelerator Act moving ahead. Stay tuned to hear more about how we continue helping building a more comprehensive EU framework for CCU technologies.
