This morning, our Secretary General, Anastasios Perimenis, spoke on the 3rd day of the Renewable Materials Conference (RMC) 2025 in Cologne (DE), during the morning session “Setting the Frame for Renewable Carbon”.
Anastasios’ presentation titled “Chemicals and Materials from CCU: The EU Context” highlighted the role granted to Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) in recent legislation: the near-complete but challenging framework for CCU fuels, the clear rules on CO₂ mineralisation, the upcoming legislation on CO₂ markets and infrastructure that is relevant for the entire industrial carbon value chain; but on the other hand the absence of equivalent policy engagement for CCU chemicals. Captured carbon needs to be widely recognised as an alternative and circular carbon feedstock in instruments like the upcoming Circular Economy Act. He also had the chance to present the results of our first-of-a-kind quantitative assessment of the realistic contribution of CCU towards climate neutrality in the EU.
Today, the conference is focusing on concepts and policies for sustainable carbon cycles and the role of biodegradation in the circular economy. Discussions are exploring what kind of policy framework or market demand is needed to advance renewable carbon and carbon cycles, as well as the latest technical and policy developments and new trends in biodegradation.
CO₂ Value Europe is proud to be a Gold Sponsor of this conference, offering special discounts to its members. Over the past few years, RMC has established itself as the international meeting place for innovators, companies and brands, investors, and policymakers to collaborate in developing and shaping the future renewable carbon economy.
