A private non-profit foundation and member of the Basque Research & Technology Alliance (BRTA), CIC energiGUNE is a leading European research centre in electrochemical and thermal energy storage. The center applies its research results directly to the market, strengthening industrial competitiveness and accelerating the energy transition.

Within its Thermocatalysis and Ionic Liquids group, the team is dedicated to designing and developing more efficient and selective catalysts, both homogeneous and heterogeneous, for the conversion of CO₂ into chemicals and synthetic fuels. Our new member’s expertise includes catalytic systems for CO₂ cycloaddition reaction, Sabatier reaction, and e-methanol/e-ethanol generation. The group is also advancing hybrid materials based on ionic liquids for CO₂ capture at the point of source and through Direct Air Capture (DAC).

Ongoing PhD projects related to Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU)

  • Designing catalytic systems for more efficient and selective generation of synthetic ethanol
  • Developing novel materials for CO₂ capture at the source and via DAC

Joining CO₂ Value presents a unique opportunity for CIC energiGUNE to engage with a leading network dedicated to advancing research and innovation to reduce carbon emissions.
