Throughout June, our policy team continued to actively engage with EU institutions, national stakeholders, and global partners to promote the role of Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) in Europe’s climate and industrial agenda. From high-level policy discussions to expert workshops, here are the key highlights from this past month:

🔹 Coming Up: Carbon Capture Europe 2025 Summit (25/06/25)

Our Senior Policy Manager, Franklin Streichenberger, will speak in Amsterdam next week on EU policy and the essential role of CO₂ utilisation in achieving the 2040 and 2050 climate targets. Stay tuned!

🔹 Molecule Forum (12–13/06/25)

Invited as a speaker at Molecule Group’s flagship event – a global platform focused on advancing sustainable fuels and chemicals – we engaged with international stakeholders from five continents on the challenges and opportunities to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels. We look forward to continuing our collaboration.

🔹 Defossilisation Hour – Swiss-EU Dialogue (06/06/25)

The policy team joined CCLoop’s webinar on EU legislation to exchange views on the opportunities and challenges shared between Swiss and EU CCU projects. A valuable moment to learn from each other and align on cross-border perspectives.

🔹 IEA GHG Programme Interview on CO₂ Transport (06/06/25)

We shared insights in an interview for an upcoming IEA GHG Programme study on CO₂ transport. Our contribution focused on policy recommendations, infrastructure needs, and the role of CCU alongside CCS in reaching EU climate targets.

🔹 Biogenic CO₂ Workshop – Joint Industry Initiative (05/06/25)

We took part in a multi-stakeholders workshop led by ERGaR on the certification of biogenic CO₂ gathering industry, EU associations, and certification bodies. Our Policy Director Tudy Bernier presented CCU use cases for biogenic CO₂ in CCU. We will continue contributing to this effort on driving investments into capturing biogenic CO₂.

🔹 SkyNRG Market Outlook Event (05/06/25)

We attended this insightful event organised by our member SkyNRG on projected developments in SAFs and eSAFs, with valuable contributions from ICF and our newest member Zaffra. A forward-looking discussion on scaling sustainable aviation fuels.

🔹 Meetings with EU Legislators (Throughout June)

We met with several legislators to provide input on upcoming regulatory files impacting CCU, including the CISAF framework for State Aid, the IDAA proposal for lead carbon markets, and the EU ETS 2026 revision, such as MEP Wouter Beke’s team (BE, EPP) and the Danish Industry Attaché to discuss priorities for the CCU community ahead of the Danish Presidency.

We thank all our members, institutional partners, and collaborators for their continued support as we work to shape a policy landscape that enables CCU to thrive in Europe.
