On 21st of May, CO₂ Value Europe and 20 other industry stakeholders published a joint statement calling for a phased, pragmatic and proportionate approach to the development of the EU regulatory framework for CO₂ transport infrastructure.
This statement calls for frameworks that enable deployment, de-risk investments, and support first-mover projects across the entire CCU and CCS value chains.
Delivering Europe’s CCU and CCS ambitions will require strong coordination across industries, Member States, and infrastructure projects. Most importantly, it requires that CO₂ transport infrastructure deployment is developed considering all Industrial Carbon Management (ICM) pathways, including carbon utilisation in fuels, chemicals and materials. The right framework can enable a timely and cost-effective deployment while ensuring Europe remains competitive on the path to climate neutrality.
