On the 13th of July, the European Commission published the forty-one large-scale innovative clean-tech projects which were selected for grant agreement preparations under the Innovation Fund. We are delighted that more than ten of them have connections with a Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) value chain.
The Innovation Fund is one of the world’s largest programmes aimed at boosting the deployment of industrial solutions to effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Europe. The third call for large-scale project includeed four different topics, three of which are part of REPowerEU Plan:
General decarbonisation
Industry electrification and hydrogen
Clean tech manufacturing
Mid-sized pilots
Grants of €3.6 billion will be disbursed from the Innovation Fund to help bring breakthrough technologies to the market in energy-intensive industries, hydrogen, renewable energy, carbon capture and storage infrastructure, and manufacturing of key components for energy storage and renewables.
Among the selected projects, which cover a wide range of sectors contributing to the EU’s decarbonisation efforts, the ones of major CCU interest are:
Columbus
E-fuel Pilot
eM-Rhone
GREEN MEIGA
TRISKELION
BioOstrand
EVEREST
KOdeCO net zero
GO4ZERO
CFCPILOT4CCS
The selected projects are expected to come into operation by 2030 and to contribute to avoid about 221 Mt of CO2 in the first 10 years of operation.
Please find a brief description of the above projects here.
