Our member ORLEN has reached a significant milestone by signing key cooperation agreements in the hydrogen sector with three leading Finnish partners: ABO Energy Suomi, Nordic Ren-Gas, and VolagHy Kuopio SPV. These partnerships will secure long-term supplies of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives, supporting Poland’s growing industrial demand and strengthening Europe’s energy security.

What this means for the future:

🔵Up to 100,000 tonnes/year of renewable hydrogen from ABO Energy Suomi

🔵Production of e-methane using renewable hydrogen and biogenic CO₂ from Nordic Ren-Gas

🔵Around 50,000 tonnes/year of synthetic fuels from VolagHy Kuopio SPV, with expansion across the Nordics

🔵Development of efficient supply and logistics routes from Finland to ORLEN’s refining and chemical facilities in Poland

🔵Preparation for large-scale underground hydrogen storage using Poland’s salt caverns and ORLEN’s unique geological and drilling expertise

Hydrogen is set to become a cornerstone of Europe’s industrial and transport decarbonisation, and these agreements strengthen ORLEN’s leadership in the energy transition. This Baltic Sea cooperation builds secure, resilient supply chains to support zero-emission fuels and Europe’s long-term climate goals.
