On the occasion of the Summit Choose France 2025, our member H2V, a French green hydrogen developer, and the German renewable hydrogen producer Hy2gen have announced a strategic partnership to launch H4 Marseille Fos, a pioneering joint venture dedicated to the production of synthetic fuel (e-SAF) to defossilise aviation.
Located in Fos-sur-Mer, alongside the Grand Port Maritime de Marseille, the 390 MW facility represents an investment of €1.5 billion and the creation of 165 direct jobs. From 2030, the site will produce 75,000 tonnes of e-SAF per year using Methanol-to-Jet technology, achieving up to 84% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than fossil kerosene, equivalent to 240,000 tonnes of CO₂ avoided annually.
The project builds on the synergies between leading industrial and financial partners, including Hy24, Technip Energies, and the port of Marseille Fos, with the support of the French Région Sud, Marseille Provence Airport, and VINCI Airports. Together, they form a robust industrial ecosystem committed to developing a local e-SAF value chain and contributing to the #ReFuelEU Aviation target of 10% e-SAF by 2040.
This partnership marks a significant step forward in Europe’s clean aviation transition, turning renewable hydrogen into real-world climate impact.
