Welcome to Our New Member Fairbrics!
Fairbrics is committed to contributing to climate change mitigation by transforming the fashion, chemical, and packaging sectors by converting CO2 emissions into valuable products using Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU).
Our new member offers an innovative solution to accelerate the textile industry’s transition to a circular economy. By leveraging molecular chemistry, they convert waste CO2 into polyester fabric. CO2 is captured from industrial sources and then reacted with a catalyst and solvent to produce chemicals used in polyester synthesis. These chemicals are polymerised into polyester pellets which are then spun into yarn and woven into fabric. In the near future, their technology will enable the production of carbon-negative, sustainable PET.
Fairbrics is establishing its pilot plant in Belgium to scale up its technology and develop its first industrial plant, which will be capable of producing commercial volumes of sustainable PET textiles within a few years. As a partner in the EU-funded project Threading-CO2, they aim to address the critical challenges of carbon neutrality, circularity, cost, value chain adaptation, and textile properties.
