Biogenic CCU in Europe: From Emissions to Investments

February 10 @ 9:00 am - 1:30 pm

Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) is becoming a core pillar of Europe’s path to climate neutrality and energy security. Within this space, biogenic CO₂, captured from sustainable biomass and organic waste, offers a rare opportunity to deliver true carbon-negative emissions while powering a circular carbon economy.

Unlike fossil-based carbon capture, biogenic CO₂ is renewable by nature. It can be used to produce e-fuels for hard-to-electrify sectors like aviation, shipping, and heavy industry. This makes it central to Europe’s efforts to scale domestic energy, cut fossil imports, and boost industrial resilience.

The Biogenic CCU in Europe: From Emissions to Investments event, which will take place on 10 February 2026 in Paris, France, will bring together industrial leaders, investors, and public and private stakeholders to explore how biogenic CCU can be scaled across Europe.

Our Secretary General, Anastasios Perimenis, will participate in the panel discussion ‘Financing and de-risking bioCCU projects’ at 11:30 am. The panel will consist of Emilie Espanet, New Energies Coalition General Secretary (CMA CGM),  Michael De Witte, Director Energy Finance & Advisory, Societe Generale Corporate & Investment Banking (SGCIB) and Germain Hurtado, Hydrogen Technologies & Project Director (Vinci). The panel will be moderated by InnoEnergy.
