Biogenic CO2/Carbon Certification: Towards a Circular Economy Workshop

CO2 Value Europe, along with other European organisations, is co-organising a one-day workshop to discuss a new initiative concerning biogenic CO2 certification on Wednesday the 26th of June in Brussels (BE). The workshop will feature several parallel sessions alongside a panel discussion.

Biogenic CO2 is the carbon dioxide (CO2) resulting from the decomposition, digestion, or combustion of biomass or biomass-derived products. By 2050, the European Union aims to achieve climate neutrality by creating an economy with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. Biogenic CO2 will play a significant role in reaching this goal, leading to a truly circular and more sustainable society.

Biogenic CO2 can be applied in various industries, ranging from food and beverages to e-fuels or RFNBOs. It is essential to account for biogenic CO2, establishing its source and ensuring its traceability for producers and end-users/consumers to demonstrate its biogenic origin. This can be achieved by implementing a certification framework. Having such a framework in place can incentivize producers to capture Biogenic CO2 and provide proof of origin for end-users/consumers.

A detailed workshop agenda will be provided closer to the event date. The panel discussion will be held online and the workshops discussing the different topics in detail will take place in-person.
