The CO2 Value Europe delegation was glad to join the ACHEMA 2024 from 10-14 June 2024 in Frankfurt, Germany, home to the entire technology and service spectrum of the process industries. With more than 110,000 m² of exhibition space, ACHEMA brought together experts and executives from all over the world and is characterised by numerous product premieres and technology presentations. The event is a signpost and source of inspiration for the globally networked process industries and their players.

During that week, we were with our booth in the Green Innovation area to serve as a platform to showcase the entire CCU value chain, presenting an outstanding opportunity for the CCU community to expand its reach and gain valuable visibility. The booth was shared with the INITIATE project which CO Value Europe is proudly part of as a WP7 leader in communication and dissemination.

On the 10th of June, we organised and hosted a Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) side event at ACHEMA 2024. Our Secretary General Anastasios Perimenis moderated the event with speakers and panelists consisting of members. The event discussed CCU’s journey from research to commercialisation and achieving industrial symbiosis by capturing carbon as an alternative chemical feedstock. It spotlighted:

🔵 The challenges of bringing CCU solutions from validation at the research stage to demonstration at the industrial scale.

🔵 The new opportunities for collaboration opened through CCU among industrial actors that would traditionally not work alongside one another.

Thank you to our members for joining our side event to represent the CCU value chain in Europe and to the ACHEMA organisation team who gave CCU a prominent space at the conference.

The INITIATE project, funded by the Horizon 2020 EU program, will advance the implementation of circular economy, industrial symbiosis, and CCU by re-using residual steel gases as a resource for the cross-sectorial, more efficient, and less wasteful manufacture of urea, at a significantly reduced carbon footprint.
