Earlier this month, CO2 Value Europe responded to the European Consultation on Sustainable Investment – EU environmental taxonomy, inviting EU policymakers to reflect on the inclusion of carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) technologies as a standalone activity in future revisions of the Taxonomy.
On the specific proposal made by the Commission on the EU environmental taxonomy, we are calling, in particular, to reuse the wording proposed by the EU Platform on Sustainable Finance around the manufacturing of plastic packaging goods to include explicit references to CCU and the possibility of using captured CO2 as feedstock as a way to defossilise the chemical industry.
