Welcome to our New Member CarbonFree!

CarbonFree is a carbon capture company striving to decarbonise hard-to-abate industries and global supply chains. Their SkyCycle technology captures carbon dioxide from industrial plants before it enters the atmosphere and converts it into a carbon-neutral version of calcium carbonate, essential to the creation of paper and plastics, building materials, paint, and personal care products.

Our new member entered an agreement with United States Steel Corporation to build a SkyCycle plant at their Cary Works site in Indiana (US), which will be one of the first commercial-scale Carbon Capture Utilisation (CCU) plants at a steel factory in North America. The project will capture and mineralise up to 50,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually and convert these emissions into specialty grade, carbon-neutral calcium carbonate.

In addition, CarbonFree’s SkyMine plant has been operational since 2016 and is an industrial-scale carbon mineralisation facility, operating alongside a cement factory in San Antonio. It captures CO2 from an adjacent cement plant and converts it into sodium bicarbonate which could be utilised in animal feed and other industrial applications.
