The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy has initiated the process for the development of Carbon Contracts for Difference (CCfD) for approximately €6 billion in 2026. In this edition, Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) projects are also eligible for support.
CCfDs compensate for the additional costs in conventional processes and offer energy-intensive industries financial planning security against price fluctuations, thus managing the risk associated with the adoption of climate-friendly and sustainable processes. Only companies that participate in the preparatory round, closing on the 1st of December 2025, can also take part in the consultation for the main round in 2026.
