In a recent article published in The General Journal of Europe, our colleague Tudy Bernier explains how Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) technologies can be pivotal for Europe to play a leading role in climate action and demonstrate that reaching climate neutrality is possible.
The article focuses in particular on the need to build the appropriate policy framework and support among policymakers for CCU technologies to be deployed in Europe and ensure they deliver their expected impact.
For CCU to deliver results, we need EU legislation to follow strict principles:
– Reducing CO2 emissions is and should remain the number one priority in all sectors of society.
– All CO2 emissions must be accounted for.
– But no CO2 emission should be accounted for twice, as is the case with CCU fuels right now.
